British four-piece rock band Collateral are set to release their eponymous debut album on February 21, 2020. The album will be released by Roulette Media Records and distributed worldwide through Cargo.
Collateral are, on this album, exactly what they say they are, a rock band, and that is perhaps where the problems start for this band because although there are hints here of what this band could be capable of, I am struggling to find on many of these songs something that shouts out at me that “Collateral” are here with a sound that identifies them from so many other similar bands out there at the moment. Having said that last statement, I of course realise how hard it is to do something that a band like Aerosmith have not already done many times before. If you want to get that crucial breakthrough to the massive American and German music buying audiences though, then perhaps this is not a bad sound to have at some inspirational level as once you hopefully achieve that break through you can then start to develop your own individuality.
This is a rock based album, and I accept that fact, but staying in that vein of music does mean that there is going to be a loss of diversity and musical “colouring” to an album. There are though some songs on this album which do give hints that Collateral are capable of exploring other musical ideas, and “About The Boy” and “Get Back To You” are good examples of maybe what is still to come from the band.
Will 2020 be a break-through year for this flamboyant Kent-based band comprised of Angelo Tristan (lead vocals, guitar), Todd Winger (guitar), Jack Bentley-Smith (bass) and Ben Atkinson (drums)? Who knows, but with a solid reputation already built upon their live performances, and the songs on this album, perhaps Collateral do stand a chance of making it in this highly competitive music market-place, particularly in the massive USA radio airplay market.

"Tonight I don’t want a lover
I just need that special friend
Someone who will just hold me tight tonight
As they speak softly to me words of comfort
Hold me in that way they know I like to be held
Let the fragile little child inside of me
Once again come out for just a little time"
