Opera Mouse at Pleasance Courtyard - The Green brings an introduction to Opera via the story of Tilly Mouse whose dream whilst living under an opera house is to become an opera singer herself.  Opera Mouse is the widely travelled and performed creation of trained operatic singer Melanie Gall, and this production starring Melanie, storyteller Eden Ballantyne and of course Opera Mouse was holding its young and slightly older audience entranced for the duration of the show.

Few things can be braver to take to the stage than a children’s show as you never know what is going to happen, so to deal with all possibilities you have to as a performer be very sharp and slick at improvisation. Melanie Gall and Eden Ballantyne are very good at both.

With excerpts from some classic operas and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, the story of Tilly Mouse not only gently introduces children to music and opera, but reinforces the belief that anything is possible if you want it badly enough and are prepared to do the work required to achieve your goals.

Reviewing any children’s show is always difficult as you have to try and view the performance through the reactions of the children at the show, and the children here were captivated from start to finish.  Melanie Gall is not only a skilled singer, but a storyteller too.

Melanie is a performer who wears many different hats, and another two completely different shows from Melanie at this year’s Fringe are below.
