Anchor Lane release “Fame Shame,” the first single taken from their debut album, will be released on Friday October 11, 2019 with the album, "Casino" set for release in January 2020.
If you have not yet heard of Anchor Lane, they are a four-piece rock band from Glasgow who have been making a name for themselves in live shows with guest spots with Cheap Trick, Eagles of Death Metal and Tremonti. The band is comprised of singer Conor Gaffney, guitarist Lawrence O’ Brien, bass player Matthew Quigley and drummer Scott Hanlon. The band has also previously released their EP “New Beginning”.
There is only the title track on this CD single and that I have to admit does puzzle me as I suspect that the market for a single song CD is a limited one, but of course there are other ways to hear this song as there is also a video for it shot on location in the band’s home city of Glasgow.
As the title suggests, “Fame Shame,” is a commentary on fame and how the worlds of social media and reality television in particular promote this issue like some over-used currency, but despite its contemporary topic, there is an “old school” feel to the music here.
There is something about Anchor Lane and “Fame Shame” that takes me back to music I was listening to in the late 1970s, with an almost punk attitude feel to this song, and maybe this attitude is something that only a band at the early stages of their music career can ever truly have, that moment in time when they are truly still hungry for their music and wanting to shout to the world that they have arrived.
Let’s hope that this attitude is continued in the "Casino" album when it is released next year.
